Our Dawson Home

There once was a man. This once was his land. As I walk the old trails and look at the weeds that fill an old field, as I push through shrubs; I find myself wanting to cry. Suddenly, within the breeze I felt him right beside me.

“Why do you cry?’

“Grand-pop, I wish they could see, I wish my children could see.”

“Then my child paint them a picture.”

“Grand-pop, it’s not that simple. How did the world get this way?”

“Child it is very simple, show them what you see, words are never enough”

“This is how you show them, I ask you to remember me…

Remember me, in the summer when the berries are ready to be picked.

Remember me, as you plant your gardens.

Remember me, when your feet touch the earth.

Remember me, when the leaves change colors.

Remember me, when you fall asleep under the huge tree in our woods.

Remember me, when you skip the creek rocks.

Remember me, as you feed a horse my apples.

Remember me, when you smell lilacs in the breeze.

Remember me, watching you, as you walk home.

Remember me, as you play on our farm.

Remember me, underneath the evergreen tree.

Remember me, as you drink from honeysuckles.

Remember me, as you chase lightning bugs.

Remember me, as you snack on butterscotch candy and chips.

Remember me, as you sit quietly and watch the birds dance.

Remember me, as you love one another and speak kindly.

The most important thing to remember, when you feel alone and need to be loved. Remember me, I will stand beside you, I will always be your forever home.”

I thank the Lord for creating you because within you I find my forever home. Beneath the soil and the earth, a heart of compassion a soul full of strength. Unconditional love and faith that his love carries on.

  1. My daughter….your words…your thoughts…your memory.. are perfectly said in this.. I am crying , not for sadness but because the love of your great grandfather is still within your heart, soul and mind.
